Portsmouth stopped still in silence today to mark those who have fallen
in wars across the world. Crowds gathered in Guildhall Square to pay
their respects to all those who have served in conflicts across the
globe.
Hundreds of people made their way to the square where the crowds stood
in sombre reflection remembering all those who fought and died for their
country. This year parade was led by the Band of Her Majesty’s Royal
Marines Collingwood and the Salvation Army Portsmouth Citadel Band.
A gun from HMS Nelson was fired at 11am to start the two-minute silence.
Community leaders, representatives of the armed forces, and faith
leaders all joined the service and laid wreaths for those who died.
